இடஒதுக்கீடு போராட்டம்

ஐஐடி, ஐஐஎம் ஆகிய கல்வி நிலையங்களில் பிற்பட்டோர் அனைவருக்கும் இடஒதுக்கீடு கோரி பாமக சார்பில் இன்று சென்னையில் போராட்டம் நடைபெற்றது. அனைத்து பிற்பட்ட மற்றும் ஒடுக்கப்பட்ட சமுதாயம் சார்பில் நடைபெற்ற இந்த போராட்டத்தில் மருத்துவர் ஐயா, திராவிடர் கழக தலைவர் ஆசிரியர் வீரமணி ஆகியோர் பங்கேற்றனர். அடுத்த கட்ட போராட்டம் புதுதில்லியில் நடைபெறும் என ஆசிரியர் வீரமணி தெரிவித்தார்

CHENNAI: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi should intervene on the issue of opposition to the implementation of reservation for other backward classes in Central institutions, Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian Institutes of Management and take a "favourable decision," the Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss said on Wednesday.

Participating in a demonstration organised by students' wing of the PMK to press the Central Government on the implementation of the quota system, Dr. Ramadoss said that as all 40 Members of Parliament from the State [and Pondicherry] were part of the United Progressive Alliance, the issue should be resolved in favour of the OBCs.

He wondered why there should be no reservation in the institutions of higher education when a constitutional amendment had been made to provide reservation even in self-financing colleges. This point had been raised in Parliament by the PMK MP M. Ramadass.

Dr. Ramadoss criticised the argument made in certain quarters that merit would suffer if the quota system were to be implemented. Candidates belonging to OBCs finished toppers in many competitive examinations. Certain "forces" inimical to the reservation system would not change their position and their designs would be defeated, the PMK leader said.

Stir in New Delhi



Participating in the rally, K. Veeramani, Dravida Kazhagam leader, said his party and the PMK would stage a demonstration in New Delhi soon on the issue.

The present move to provide reservation for OBCs was only a follow-up to what was initiated by V.P. Singh as Prime Minister in 1990. At that time, in spite of a strong opposition, the quota system came into force. Since then, the concept of reservation has gained greater acceptance. So, anti-reservation agitations would not succeed, he said.

Slogans were raised by the participants to press the point that quotas were neither concessions nor gifts; rather a matter of birthright of the OBCs. G.K. Mani, president of the PMK, and Dalit Poongundran, general secretary of the DK, were among those who addressed the participants.

ஐஐடி, ஐஐஎம் உள்ளிட்ட உயர் கல்விக் கூடங்களில் பிற்படுத்தப்பட்ட மாணவர்களுக்கு இட ஒதுக்கீட்டை எதிர்ப்பவர்களைக் கண்டித்து நாளை போராட்டம் நடத்தப் போவதாக பாட்டாளி மக்கள் கட்சியின் நிறுவனர் டாக்டர் ராமதாஸ் அறிவித்துள்ளார்.

இது குறித்து அவர் வெளியிட்டுள்ள அறிக்கையில்,

ஐஐடி, ஐஐஎம், மத்திய அரசின் கட்டுப்பாட்டில் உள்ள பல்கலைக்கழகங்கள் ஆகிய உயர் கல்வி நிலையங்களில் இந்த ஆண்டு முதல் பிற்படுத்தப்பட்டவர்களுக்கு 27 சதவீத இட ஒதுக்கீடு அமலாக்கப்படும் என அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது.

இது மத்திய அரசின் முடிவல்ல. நாடாளுமன்றம் எடுத்த முடிவு. ஆனால், இந்த இட ஒதுக்கீட்டை எதிர்த்து டெல்லி போன்ற நகரங்களில் மாணவர்கள் என்ற போர்வையில் ஆதிக்க சக்திகள் போராட்டத்தில் இறங்கியுள்ளன.

இவர்களால் தான் 25 ஆண்டுகளாக மண்டல் கமிஷன் பரிந்துரைகள் தூசிபடித்து கிடந்தன. அதை அமலாக்க விடாமல் தடை ஏற்படுத்தினர். வி.பி.சிங் பிரதமராக வந்த பின்னர் தான் பெரும் தடைகளையும் மீறி அதை அமலாக்கினார். அப்போது எந்தெந்த ஆதிக்க சக்திகள் வி.பி.சிங்குக்கு எதிராக கிளர்ச்சியில் ஈடுபட்டனவோ, அவையே இப்போதும் தலை தூக்கியுள்ளன.

மண்டல் கமிஷன் கிளர்ச்சியை வைத்து விபி.சிங் ஆட்சியைக் கவிழ்த்தது போல இப்போது பிற்பட்ட மாணவர்களுக்கான இட ஒதுக்கீட்டைத் தர முயலும் மன்மோகன் சிங் அரசையும் கவிழ்த்துவிட திட்டம் போடுகிறார்கள்.

அந்தத் திட்டத்தை முறியடித்து, இப்போது மீண்டும் தலை தூக்கியுள்ள இந்த ஆதிக்க சக்திகளை ஒடுக்கி, அவர்கள் போடும் தடையை உடைத்து எறிய வேண்டிய பொறுப்பும் கடமையும் சமூக நீதியில் அக்கறையுள்ள அனைவருக்கும் உண்டு.

பிற்பட்டவர்களுக்கு உயர் கல்வி வாய்ப்பை மறுக்கும் ஆதிக்க சக்திகளைக் கண்டித்து நாளை (10ம் தேதி) பாட்டாளி மக்கள் சங்கம் சார்பில் சென்னையில் மாபெரும் கண்டனப் போராட்டம் நடத்தப்படும்.

இதன்மூலம் டெல்லி போன்ற நகரங்களில் ஆர்ப்பாட்டம் நடத்துகிறவர்களும் அதைத் தூண்டிவிடுகிறவர்களும் அந்தப் போராட்டங்களை முக்கியப்படுத்தி வருபவர்களும் திருந்திக் கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்று கூறியுள்ளார் ராமதாஸ்.

விஜய்காந்தை விரட்டியடித்த வன்னியர் கிராமம்

விருத்தாசலத்தில் வன்னியர் கிராமத்துக்குள் நுழைந்த விஜய்காந்தை பாமகவினரும் பொது மக்களும் சேர்ந்து விரட்டியடித்தனர்.

அடி விழும் சூழல் உருவானதால் அந்த ஊருக்குள் நுழையாமல் விஜய்காந்த் திரும்பிவிட்டார்.

விஜய்காந்த் தான் போட்டியிடும் விருத்தாசலத்தக்குச் சென்றார். அங்கு முதனை என்ற கிராமத்தில் வாக்குப் பதிவு நடப்பதை பார்வையிட அவர் சென்றார்.

ஆனால், அவரது காரை அந்த கிராமத்தினரும் பாமகவினரும் தடுத்து நிறுத்தினர். திரும்பிச் சென்றுவிடுமாறு கோஷம் எழுப்பினர். சிலர் அவரைத் தாக்கவும் முயன்றனர். நிலைமை மோசமாக இருப்பதை உணர்ந்த விஜய்காந்த் உடனே அங்கிருந்து திரும்பிவிட்டார்.

விஜய்காந்துடன் வந்த கார்களுடன் அவசரமாகத் திரும்பிச் சென்றுவிட்டன.

Vijayakant at the receiving end on polling day

VRIDDHACHALAM: Stones and footwear were flung at the car of actor and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam founder, Vijayakant, at Mudanai in the Vriddhachalam constituency on Monday.

The crowd also manhandled a reporter and a photographer of a Tamil daily and allegedly damaged the camera.

Mr. Vijayakant, who is contesting from Vriddhachalam, encountered problems wherever he went on polling day.

Entry opposed


First, he went to the booth at Gandhi Nagar, where he was told about some problem at Mudanai. When he reached Mudanai, a handful of persons objected to his entry. Soon a large number of people gathered.

Sensing that the situation was turning volatile and at the request of security personnel, Mr. Vijayakant came out of the booth. After he boarded the car, stones and footwear came flying. Some people were caught in between. Later, Mr. Vijayakant went to Mugasaparur to persuade people to vote. (They were suffering from diarrhoea for the past two days and not in a mood to vote alleging no party had come to offer help. They later relented.)

When he stood on a stool to address the people, the rival camp alleged that he was trying to woo the electorate and objected to his presence, forcing him to leave.

Mr. Vijayakant went to the polling station at Patti. When he began speaking on his cell phone, the AIADMK cadres objected, arguing that the Election Commission had banned cell phones inside booths. Mr. Vijayakant had to beat a hasty retreat.
